August 25, 2025 - Day #218
It’s A Three-fer For Florida, And Not In A Good Way
There must be something in the water in Florida. Maybe a Trump acolyte got into the water supply and dumped a bag of “cruelty juice” into the state’s water system or maybe a 55 gallon drum of “I don’t give a sh*t about people” enhancer or maybe Trump sent his cruelest sycophant, Stephen Miller, of “cruelty to immigrants” fame, down to the Sunshine State where he used some sort of modified degenerate fluoride to mess up voter’s minds. Whatever the method, what Trump (or his team) set in motion must have worked because there is no other explanation for why and/or how one state could have three high profile politicians so messed up as the three people-haters Florida has.
Project1461’s Day #216 tirade against Florida Governor Ron Desantis highlighted the disdain and cruel regard with which he holds the LGBT community. His indifference, (likely either biblically inspired or his closeted inner queer), was illustrated by his robotic shrugging off of the re-painting of a rainbow sidewalk honoring the 2016 murders of 49 people at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando Florida two days ago. His reaction to the memorial being destroyed? “We will not allow our state roads to be commandeered for political purposes.” was his social media posting.
Nice response, Ron.

And then we have the illustrious former Senior Senator of Florida, Marco Rubio, now Trump’s Secretary of State. Acting as if there is a competition for who can be the cruelest, meanest SOB in all of Trump MAGA land, Rubio, under the auspices of his Secretarial-ship, upon his January 20th first day at work sign in, began immediately to close down USAID, which, within just over five months, on July 1, he concluded. There now is no US Agency for International Development, and as a result, along with incalculable additional harms to unfortuned populations around the world, experts estimate that up to 14 million people will die because of the abrupt and longer term cuts in aid the agency formerly provided.
Nice work, Marco.

The third crueler-than-thou politician who leads the embarrassing parade of embarrassers strutting out of Florida, is their current US Senator, Rick Scott. And if it’s even possible (and it seemingly couldn’t be), he is right down there mucking around at a similarly bottom-of-the-barrel-lack-of-care-for-your-fellow-man as the other two, along with the added stench of simultaneously profiting while engaged in his hating.
Preceding his two terms as governor of Florida from 2011 to 2019, Scott was in the healthcare fraud, er, healthcare business. In the mid 90s he was the CEO of the largest for profit healthcare business in the country. During his tenure, the company was investigated for Medicare fraud and other wrong doing, and Scott was forced out in 1997. The company paid about $2 billion in fines and penalties, which, at that time, was the largest fraud penalty in US history. In the end, he faced no accountability and in fact, walked away with $10 million plus 10 million shares of the company valued at $350 million.
After that ousting, he then later was co-founder of a group of walk-in health clinics, Solantic, which subsequently were also found to have problems, including claims of discrimination by prospective employees, along with other issues.
A Salon.com investigative article from September of 2009 detailed how Scott’s medical business lobbying activities cross-pollinated with his ownership stake in that business. In the article, proffered by one expert in the field, is the following assessment about how Scott sees the medical business.
“Solantic makes its profit on the spread in this system. “He’s there to catch everyone who doesn’t have access to regular healthcare,” says the Center for American Progress’s Igor Volsky. “It’s just a business opportunity.”
Nice view about healthcare, Rick.

So there you have it, three happy haters from Florida.
